Lin Yi-Chi now works and lives in Taipei. Lin received her Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Taipei National University of the Arts, and is currently pursuing another Master’s degree in Motion Picture at National Taiwan University of Arts. Her artistic practice includes video art, experimental cinema, and video installation.
Lin has been focusing on the diaspora experiences in East Asia’s cold war context. By collecting memories and dreams that are interwoven with personal identities, Lin views images as the medium of necromancy, and represents the re-enchanted status of individual experiences in the contemporary era in her creation. Lin’s video works summon the marginal narratives of national memories as well as the historical and collective ones.
Stories from the Inland Sea
The work of residency “Lagoon Residents” portrays everyday life of Madou residents on this land through local observations. Incorporating various myths and stories from the past of Daofong Lagoon, the artist creates an outdoor wind-kinetic video installation, which is placed on the grass hill of Madou Cultural Park of Ancient Port. As monsoon wind blows, the artist employs the concept of visual persistence to make connections between the landscapes in the past with the appearance of people nowadays so as to create a fresh interpretation and dialogue about the history of the landscape in Daofong Lagoon.
